In this fast paced moving world, almost every person seems to be in a sense of nostalgia. They long for those ideal times of childhood when there was almost nothing to worry about. The television shows of today also are not the ones that were aired earlier. Nor can one relate to things that were their close to their soul, once. One such belonging that everyone cherishes even till they grow ripe are the toys! Earlier only wooden toys were available for playing. Made from wood every detail was taken care of. However, those days seems to have gone past. Look around and you will hardly find children indulged playing with wooden toys anymore!

But thanks to the recent trend of antiquity and environmental concerns that most of these art is being revived. As plastic was cheaper and easier to maintain, it was replacing wood but the realization of the advantages of wooden toys and finally changed the scenario. Today, people are aware that wooden toys are not only non toxic toys and environmental friendly but are pollution free and also help a lot in developing a child's growth much more as when compared to an ordinary plastic toy. They also have the advantage of being more durable and thus can be passed from one generation to the other. The presence of a large variety from toy trains, puzzle blocks, to rocking horses, also adds to the popularity of these wooden toys.

Today, the toys made from wood are making a comeback and for many good reasons. Their asset includes low cost and energy for maintenance. One only needs a wet cloth or tissue to clean them. As they are non toxic, the cost of paint can be checked. These toys can be used for both indoor and outdoor purposes without much hassle. Also toys like wooden furniture, houses for dolls and kitchen sets can increase the imagination and develop a child's mind to a great extent.

Another advantage of wooden toys over plastic toys is that most of the plastic toys use battery to work. Exposing a small child to the hazards of battery is not the most ideal thing to do. It not only bars their thinking capacity, but they are also subject to a major risk of leaking. Plastic toys are also easily breakable. Develop in your child the habit of collecting toy and trust me, they wont look forward to gather anything other than wooden toys.

How the Truck Nerf Bar was Born

Are you up for a little Nerf Bar Trivia?

Some wonder why such a rigid shiny tube on the side of a truck is called a nerf bar. Sometimes people refer to them side steps or chrome tubes because they cant grasp the concept of Nerf Bar as being a hard shiny stainless steel object. Nerf material, like the material used to make soft footballs, baseballs & frisbees you may have thrown around as a kid, doesnt really relate to some hard chrome tube you would use to step on to help you step into your truck.

So here it is. The nerf bar was a tubular device that was originally intended to be fitted to the side of a race car, often single seaters like a midget race car that competes on a race track. Nerf is also a racing term that refers to a small bump (rub) between two vehicles. When one driver bumps the other car in order to pass it, they call it nerfing. Nerf bars protect the sides of both vehicles and keeps their tires from rubbing together. Without them, the fast spinning tires can come in contact with each other causing the cars to lose control, or flip over. Sometimes having nerf bars on your truck is a good way to help protect your wheels and body kits, however if you rub your stainless steel nerf bar up against a concrete barrier, you can expect to need to replace it. Ill have to say sometimes I wish I had the old style nerf bars, because Id occasionally like to bump into a few people myself on the freeway, but I guess that wouldn't be too nice.

Round Trash Can

A round trash can is a great utility. Be it in homes, in public places or any other place that produces litter or waste, it is an indispensable unit anywhere. Trash cans come in a variety of shapes, sizes and materials. However, a round trash can is better suited and better to use than trash cans of any other shape.

The main purpose of a trash can is that it is helpful in collecting and accumulating trash. Trash cans today are available in a number of shapes, sizes, material colour etc. They are available in round, square, semi round, in steel, wood, plastic etc. Most important of all these is the shape of the trash can. However, the trash can that you choose depends on your need.

The properties that one seeks in a trash is this that it accumulates in it a maximum amount of waste be it of any kind; it is one where you do not have to touch the actual waste; it is easier to empty and clean and one that does not require too much of maintenance.

Well, a round trash receptacle can serves all of the above mentioned purposes.

A round can has the volume to carry maximum amount of trash and waste. The circumference of a round trash can offers it the functionality to be able to carry more waste compared to a square or other shaped trash can.

Round trash cans are available with a swinging top whereby the person putting the waste into it does not have to actually touch the can. The waste can just be dropped into the trash can without having to touch the actual trash can. Circular trash cans are also available having a dome shaped open top which makes putting the trash inside the can easier without having to touch the actual can.

It is comparatively easier to clean a round trash can. Since, it does not have edges to it, its cleaning is simpler and there is no residue or any dirt left behind sitting along the edges inside the trash can.

Similarly, a round shaped trash can is easier to empty. Because of the lack of any edges to it all the waste and trash in the can comes out easily unlike a square or a semi circle trash can where the trash may remain stuck to the edges and difficult to come out. A little tug to what is left behind and all the trash will come out without any hassles.

Round trash receptacles are easier to carry around. Because of their shape they can be easily picked up and placed where required. They are hassle free to be carried around. They do not occupy much space. They fit snugly in any corner.

Finally, a trash can classically have been found to be round in shape. If you use a circular trash can it will be immediately identified as a trash can. Thus, a round trash can is much better suited and efficient when compared to trash cans of any other shape.

Outdoor Dog Houses – Build Your Own Doghouse or Buy Pre-built Dog House

Today, you can find many types of outdoor doghouses available in pet stores such as wooden doghouses, cedar wood doghouses and even igloo dog houses with heaters.

If you have a large sized dog, it would be best to keep it outdoors. However, before you do that, you need a shelter for your dog. Dog houses protect your pet from the wind, sun and cold winters. What type of doghouse you need depends a lot on your needs and your budget, so do a bit of thinking before buying one.

Traditionally, most doghouses come with a triangular roof which looks like a small hut. The most common material used is mostly wood which is practical although nowadays, you can choose different types of wood for your dog house such as cedarwood.

If you decide on building your own outdoor doghouse, I found several simple dog house plans online that are practical and shouldn’t require too much time and money. Alternatively, you can visit the bookstore or Amazon to buy doghouse plans.

However, most people would prefer to buy pre-built wooden doghouses since it takes some time to build one yourself. Most pet retailers carry dog houses that are made from different materials such as plastic or foam.

Petco also sells high tech doghouses which provide insulation from cold winters as well as dog house air conditioners to keep your pet cool during the summer months. Of course the price is in the high range.

Since dogs are social animals and loved to be near their owners, it would be best to place your doghouse at the front or at the side of your house rather than at the back. If not, you might find your dog not wanting to sleep in the doghouse.

Also, make sure to keep the areas surrounding the doghouse clean. Nobody likes to sleep in a dirty home and that includes your dog as well.

Interior Decorating for your Dollhouse

A dollhouse is much more than a simple wooden or plastic building. In order to capture the feel and the essence of an actual home, your dollhouse needs to balance on many different levels. Your dollhouse can be used to evoke a certain mood, from happy excitement to darkness and foreboding. Although many factors go into creating these moods, interior design is a large piece of the puzzle. Interior design will also be used to determine how much of what type of furniture you will want, as well as the style and placement of those furniture pieces. Your interior design plan can also influence the small touches added once the basic dollhouse is complete, from televisions to magazines to air conditioning units.

Before beginning your interior design plan, be sure that you are clear on how the dollhouse will be used. If the dollhouse is to be used as a toy for small children, then your design plan will be fairly simple. Let the child’s imagination fill in the details by providing a blank slate for him or her to work with. Decorate with simple furnishings in neutral colors.

If your dollhouse will be a display item, then you have much more latitude in designing its interior. Decide on the mood and style you wish to evoke. For a traditional feel, you will want to use warm colors, antique furnishings and Queen Anne or Chippendale style furniture. A more contemporary design will use sleek lines and minimal visual clutter. If there is a particular design style or era in which you are interested, then research that era or style to determine what elements are the most representative. Most homes are decorated in a more eclectic style and most dollhouses are no different. Feel free to mix and match a wide variety of design elements.

From this point on, concentrate on each individual room. Find the room’s focal point. Sometimes this will be a built-in element from the dollhouse’s exterior shell. More often, however, you will need to create the focal point as part of your interior design. This could be a piece of furniture, a painting or any other specific detail. The focal point should draw the eye into the room, creating an invitation to look more closely.

Next, draw up the room’s floor plan. This is most easily done on graph paper, using a format where one square equals one inch. Remember to draw out the room carefully, including all windows, doors and architectural elements that are already in the room. Make sure that you allow reasonable space around each piece of furniture, avoiding a cluttered look.

Now that you have the basics of your interior design, you are ready to pick the fun details. Choose your colors, fabric patterns and textures, and exact stylings. Shop around and have fun looking through catalogs and websites. Do not hurry this process, but let it evolve organically. Remember that furnishing a well-equipped dollhouse is like furnishing a home on a miniature scale. Think about sink styles, lighting elements, mirrors, wallpaper or paint and many other details. Remember your overall vision when choosing individual elements.

Your interior design should follow a top-down theory. First, choose the overall design style for the house. Then choose the focal point, floor plan and design style for the individual room. Finally, select the furniture and other furnishings that complement the vision you have selected. Take your time and trust your judgment and imagination.

Rubber Truck Bed Mats And The Smashed Ranger

Not too long ago a neighbor asked me to help him split and stack a big firewood pile.  Sure, I thought.  As this project progressed, my mental anguish increased and my appreciation for rubber truck bed mats increased.  Here's the story...

See, the neighbor has a son with lots of energy and there were several other kids there too.  So they get in a race to see how fast they can build a wood pile.  Now the neighbor's late model, like-new, Ford Ranger pickup comes into play.

There's a short pickup haul from the splitter to the finished firewood pile.  The shiny red Ford is the truck for the hauling.  So at first the wood is loaded, with the neighbor son in charge, at a careful pace.  Heavy, seasoned oak pieces are carefully placed in the Ford.  Then as the afternoon wears on, the competition for speed increases. 

The careful firewood placement evolves into firewood tosses.  Now mind you these are heavy, hard oak slabs and the tosses are from fifteen to twenty feet out.  As things progress, the wood starts to bounce on the bed of the truck.  You can almost feel the dents.  You sure can hear them.  The blows fall faster and harder.  The pace quickens.

Now the wood is raining on the fenders, on the rear window, inside, outside, everywhere the blows land.  It's like a demolition derby.  It's total destruction of a perfectly good truck.  Dents, scratches and damage everywhere.  It's a destroyed truck in just a few hours.  It's amazing.

No truck bed mats can protect a truck from gross damage like that. 

But rubber truck mats can stand up to almost any damage a SANE person would cause in normal use.  Save your truck from expensive damage with some cheap bed mats.

Children and the Immigration Problem

As you are probably aware, the United States has taken more aggressive steps to prevent illegal immigrants from other countries (particularly Mexico) from entering the country from across the border and setting up residency here. There are many pros and cons to this permanent relocation plan, especially when dealing with the loss of the immigrant work force themselves as well as the effect that these activities have on the children of these families.

Since the beginning of this forced exile of these immigrants, the American economic system has worsened. Many farmers have lost their businesses due to the fact that they have lost the cheap manual labor that these people provided when the time to harvest came around. They simply could not afford the wages that they would have to offer to entice American workers to do this type of backbreaking work (not that many of them would even be interested in it).

Other American farmers have pulled up stakes and moved Mexico, where the cheaper labor can now be found. As a result of labor problems and the expense of importing produce that was once grown here from Mexico, our food costs are rising at an increasingly alarming rate.

On the other side of the labor issue, these immigrate workers came to this country in the first place to earn wages that were not available back home. Now many of these workers cannot support their families on the wages that they are forced to take in their own country.

Another problem that immigration officials need to address is that of the broken families that are left behind because of this enforced exile. In some cases, one parent may be an American citizen while the other is an illegal immigrant. The foreign parent is forcibly removed from the home, leaving the child and the other parent to fend for themselves. If the absent parent was also the breadwinners of the family unit, this can leave the child and remaining parent in dire straits.

There are also cases of two illegal aliens having a young child who is an American citizen. If both parents are deported, are they to leave the child here? While the government will gladly pay for the adults to go back to Mexico, transporting the child is not under their jurisdiction. Many of these parents have to leave their children behind until they can find the money to either rejoin them here or have them sent to them in Mexico at a later date.

There is also a whole generation of children who may be illegal aliens and not even know it. They have lived here for as long as they can remember and have been educated in American schools. These children are "American" as far as they themselves are concerned. Suddenly, the immigration agents arrive and inform them that they are illegal aliens and are going to be deported back to Mexico. These young people arrive in a country that is foreign to them, with no knowledge of the customs and many do not even know the language. Imagine their shock at discovering themselves in an alien, oftentimes hostile environment and losing everything that they have become familiar with their whole lives. As time goes by, officials should take a good look at what this type of forced upheaval will have on these children and their emotional well being in the future.

The questions and issues that are arising as a result of the United States' stricter immigration policy have already divided many families and are causing many unforeseen repercussions. While certain immigration restrictions are necessary, perhaps these officials should take the time to examine each case involving a child to choose the most humane solution for everyone involved.
